Modesto Cafe: From Humble Beginnings to Spreading Flavors Across the City



In the midst of the challenging year of 2020, when the world was grappling with the pandemic, a small homegrown family-oriented cafe emerged as a beacon of hope in the city of Cagayan de Oro. Modesto Cafe, founded by a business consultant turned passionate entrepreneur, started as an experiment during the peak of the pandemic. Little did they know that their determination, resilience, and mouthwatering offerings would soon win the hearts of many and lead them on an extraordinary journey.





Starting Small and Thinking Big


Modesto Cafe began its journey with a simple vision: to create a warm and inviting space where people could come together, enjoy delectable treats, and create lasting memories. The cafe started really small, with friends and family as its first loyal customers. As the pandemic's grip slowly loosened after six months, they noticed an increasing number of visitors to their humble establishment.

Realizing the potential for growth, the visionary owner decided to upgrade their services and menu. They hired additional staff and invested in training them not only in food techniques but also in providing exceptional customer service. Emphasizing open communication, the owner encouraged the staff to share their ideas on improving the business. This collaborative approach proved effective and paved the way for continuous enhancements to Modesto Cafe.

Winning Hearts, One Flavorful Dish at a Time

The heart and soul of any cafe lie in its food and service, and Modesto Cafe excelled in both aspects. Their regular customers quickly fell in love with the flavorful dishes and the warm hospitality they received. However, there was a challenge - their location in Barangay Indahag Hills was a bit far from the city center, making it difficult for everyone to visit and experience the cafe's delights.

Seeing this as an opportunity rather than a setback, the enterprising owner, Ms. Maria Carmela Urbano Bermundo, decided to take Modesto Cafe to the masses. They joined the prestigious Big Bite Food Festival at Ayala Centrio Mall, a bustling hub at the heart of CDO. By doing so, they brought their delightful offerings downtown, enabling everyone to savor the goodness of Modesto Cafe without traveling to the hills.



Spreading Flavors and Friendship

The response at the food festival was overwhelming, and the name "Modesto Cafe" began resonating with food enthusiasts across the city. Bolstered by their success, the cafe's next big step was to open a second branch. Uptown CDO was chosen as the location for this exciting venture.




As the doors of the Uptown branch open, Modesto Cafe reaches a new milestone, expanding its reach and spreading flavors and friendship far and wide. With this new chapter in their journey, they aim to touch the lives of even more people, creating cherished memories, and becoming an integral part of the city's vibrant culinary landscape.



The story of Modesto Cafe is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and passion. From a small experiment born out of adversity, it has grown into a beloved culinary destination in CDO. With their commitment to excellence and unwavering dedication, Modesto Cafe has not only won the hearts of its customers but also exemplified the spirit of "Golden Friendship" by bringing people together through the love of good food and warm hospitality. Being part of the grand opening of Modesto Uptown CDO branch was an absolute dream come true! I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute as a traveling barista and share my passion for coffee with the Modesto team. From the moment I walked into the beautifully designed cafe, I was in awe of the warm and inviting ambiance that they created. The love and attention to detail were evident in every aspect, making it a truly memorable experience.

The story of coffee begins where the green coffee bean hidden in the red coffee cherry of the coffee tree , for some they call it magical, and no matter how it was jealously or greedily guarded neither merchants, queens, kings or priests could keep it from spreading throughout the earth. Sooner and later we are captured by its aroma, acidity, body and flavor. Just  like the history of coffee,my first encounter was unexpected,from the cold mountain side of Bukidnon. Back when I was a child, Ive tried harvesting those coffee cherries and not knowing that it was the start of my coffee journey.
